Denise Raine is a visionary entrepreneur and advocate for agricultural and economic development in Kentucky. As the founder and CEO of Heritage Gardens LLC, she has been at the forefront of integrating hemp into the mainstream agricultural landscape, positioning it as a viable and sustainable commodity comparable to cotton and corn. With a strong background in community development, Raine has dedicated her efforts to transforming underutilized land in West Louisville into thriving economic hubs centered around hemp processing and export. In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits, she serves on the board of the Kentucky Hemp Association, contributing to policy discussions and industry advocacy. Denise’s passion for economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture continues to drive her mission to make hemp a staple crop in Kentucky and beyond.
A native of Louisville, HGT founder Denise Raine sought to establish a hemp processing and handling company on a vacant lot in the city's Parkland neighborhood. Her proposal was turned down due to the broad anti-cannabis stigma from both city officials and local residents, who were afraid of putting what they thought would be a drug facility in their community. Eleven years later Heritage Gardens now channels its decade plus of expertise and relationships both domestic and abroad into realized profitability as specialty crop trade specialist.
